Replicas are fun to look at, but they do not count. A contemporary counterfeit, however, would (if you can prove it was made that year). I agree that there is no need to delete this one. Leave it up like a wanted poster!

That means my 1652 coin wouldn't fit that year either - I'm pretty sure it was made several years later.

Not to worry, if you are sure that your coin was minted later wait till a definite one has been posted and post it after.

So are we still waiting for 1653 or 1652?

So, while we wait for that 1653 to materialize, who would be interested in me starting a Third Edition, beginning with 2015 coins.

Quote: So, while we wait for that 1653 to materialize, who would be interested in me starting a Third Edition, beginning with 2015 coins With two threads around with loose ends, perhaps vary it a bit, like 'Counting down from 2015 to 1800' so that the thread will be finished eventually. Could also in parallel have a thread counting down from 1800 or 1700 (or even starting with 1650s) allowing for decades or another time frame to see how far down one can really go with reasonable parameters - guess with the right set-up can tunnel down to BC.

Okay, how about this...
I will start a third edition in the main forum. It will use the same rules and start with 2015. There will be no limit since the topic is "How far back can we go?" The first one went further than the second one. Will the third be the new champion?
You (or me or someone else) can start an edition in the 'Ancient, Greek, Roman, and Medieval Coins' forum. It could/would/should use your time frame modifications (decades) and any other rules you feel are necessary. The only requirement I give you is that it starts with 1600 so that it fit that forum's guidelines.
Thoughts?

we could have one by decade, each decade lasting a week starting 12am Sunday forum time,
but also allow undated coins where we the accession dates of ruler falls within the range

@ 'jbuck' - have put up a thread in the ancient forum to see what the interest is and if any, to sort out some details. If you have coins predating 1600, you are welcome to comment. See https://goccf.com/t/195334But where is that elusive 1653 coin?

Spent a couple hours at a coin show looking for a coin dated 1653. Found a 1652 Ragusa, and a Polish coin marked as 1653 (but it was really 1650).

Sorry I'm late. I found out a few months ago that I am moving across the state soon and have been preoccupied. 1653 Ore Sweden Christina KM #162.2 The date, in Roman numerals across the top left reads: MDCLIII. This coin is very large, measuring roughly 48mm in diameter and weighing in at 51g.
