To follow up on the Hungarian Denars I thought this is a nice one: a Dutch golden ducat of the Hungarian type issued by the province of Gelderland, the Netherlands.
It doesn't have a year of issue, but the literature (GEL.76 in Catalogus Gelderse Munten by Pannekeet and 2.17.74 in Catalogus Nederlandse Munten by Passon/van der Wis) places it in 1591.
Text on front: MOneta AVrea DVcatus GELriae VALoris VNGARIaE - gold coin of the duchy of Gelderland with the value of the Hungarian
Back: CONFIDENS DomiNO NON MOVETVR - Who trusts in the Lord does not waver.

But if people don't think this is enough proof the coin is from 1591, here is one that has the year on it.
Prince thaler from Utrecht, the Netherlands. The anonymous nobleman is said to be modelled on William the Silent, Prince of Orange, founder of the House Orange-Nassau and the Netherlands as a state.
Official weight 29.03g, this one 28.65g.
Text on front: MOneta NOva ARGentea ORDINVM TRAIEctensis - new silver coin of the states of Utrecht.
On back: VIGILATE DEO CONFIDENTES - Watch with confidence in God.

Yes you are right Jgenn.
I did not think about it because I prepared these posts a long time ago and I just looked at the date.
Next time I will wait until a correct date is posted.
Sorry !

jbuck are you saying that fakes are acceptable to move us along to the next year? Thankfully, EddieDiz has posted a coin we are pretty sure is from 1592 (although I am not qualified to authenticate it).
I did not even notice.

To answer the question, fakes can be posted, but they cannot advance the thread.

Thank you!

My knowledge became very limited once we entered the 17th century, so any help is appreciated. Thank you again, jgenn.

That's a fair policy and thanks for moderating this thread.

Unfortunately, I only have two more coins to post. :(

That's a great one! Very elaborate design on the back. I also like to see the similarities between coins from different countries at the time, e.g. when comparing this one with the price thaler I posted for 1591.
