I really like those thalers with the three brothers! Also 1595: golden ducat from Gelderland, the Netherlands. Weight 3.46g vs. 3.51g officially. Gold contents 0.986. Text front: CONCORDIA RES PARvae CRESc u n t GELriae - unity makes small things grow, Gelderland. Back: MOneta ORDInum PROVINciarum FOEDERatarum BELGicarum AD LEGem IMPerii - coin of the states of the united Dutch provinces, according to the imperial law. [edit]had to add some spaces to a certain Latin word since part of it got censored because of its meaning in English...[/edit]

@Petrus: I translated that from Dutch (Catalogus Nederlandse Munten, van der Wis and Passon), but you'll find slightly different translations in different sources. This page for example has 'Coin of the Government of the Provincial Federation of Belgium Conforming with the Imperial Law' http://archaeologynewsnetwork.blogs...thed-in.htmlMy Latin isn't good enough to say what is most correct...

@ gxy: You are correct. But I think MO ORDI is 'regulier geld'

@Petrus: After looking a bit more into it, I think that that's not the correct translation. Ordinum seems to be derived from ordo (order) and ordino (to order/to govern), so I can see how that leads to the translation of 'ORDInum PROVINciarum FOEDERatarum BELGicarum' as 'government of the united Dutch provinces'. The French ordinaire and the English ordinary are also derived from ordo in Latin, but I don't think that ordo has the same meaning as the English and French derivations, as in 'common'.

Quote: Moving right along. jbuck are you saying that fakes are acceptable to move us along to the next year? Thankfully, EddieDiz has posted a coin we are pretty sure is from 1592 (although I am not qualified to authenticate it).
