Just acquired a 1879 Morgan silver dollar. Just curious if they are hard to come by or are they relatively common in the coin collecting world. Also what is the value on something like this? I'm not looking to sell, just wondering what they go for on the market.

Well it doesn't have a mint mark of any kind so it's just a regular 1879 Morgan, but I assume your referring to the fact that people can address the condition of the coin, unfortunately I am unable to post any pictures so is there anyway someone could give me a best to worst case scenario in terms of value?

Sure, but do not see how it is helpful..

$16.90 (silver melt value)
to
Several thousand dollars for a top pop.

Useless info....without a pic of your specific coin.

Yep, pretty much anywhere from $17 to $35,000+.

Why such a discrepancy? The condition matters that much as to what the coin is worth? I mean I knew it mattered but that's a $35,000 price range...

amida, not with that rim bump. About $20 value, fairly common.

Appreciate the help guys! Sorry if I come across as naïve, I'm new to coin collecting and don't know an awful lot.

CC, with any coins, grading is paramount. Grades and scarcity, plus demand, determine value. Learn to grade quickly and accurately, and the world of numismatics will be there for the taking.
