On March 14, I had a registered parcel shipped to me from the UK. Inside was a $300.00 piece of WWI militaria. Upon arrival in Canada, Canada Post sent it to a Post Office Outlet in BURLINGTON, ONTARIO (Other side of the country from me), and picked up and signed for by a random person, who took it home and never gave it back. Canada post has a policy that whenever a package is picked up, you need to show photo ID and sign on a special pad which makes your signature visable online. I don't see how the employee could mistake a parcel destined for Calgary for a parcel in Burlington, and they obviously didn't check photo ID either. Now Canada Post refuses to take responsibility, so I am $300.00 poorer (I am 16- it took me A VERY LONG TIME to save up that kind of money) and now the people who messed up in the first place refuse to do anything about it. That feels better, I just needed somewhere to vent. Andrew

sorry to hear that you got stung Andrew. I wish there was something that I could do but you know better than I do how your postal system runs. too bad you cant do anything about it but I would not stop trying. your right $300.00 is alot of money for a 16 yo to loose heck it's alot of money for a 50 yo to loose. sorry Gary too

The worst part is that someone on the other side of the country got the item at a 16 year old's expense and is too dishonest to return it. That's the part I find hardest to believe.

This seems so wrong that Canada Post will do nothing for you.Seeing as they are a crown corporation, have you tried your local MP ? Sometimes they like to take up causes like this.

Ill ask them. Ive called Canada Post customer service 5 times and they say "the seller has to make a claim with Royal Mail." How was it Royal Mails fault that a negligent employee gave away my property to a complete stranger without even ID'ing them?

Well Andrew here is what I would do. Since Canada Post is a Crown Corporation you should visit your Member of Parliament's office and see if they can help you get things remedied. Any chance that the seller also had a package going to Burlington and gave you the wrong tracking number?
Oh I see Bromac and I are on the same wave length.

He sent me a scan of the original receipt. I scratched out the important parts of the address for obvious reasons and here it is: Image: aw 2.jpg55.79 KB You can see the reference number down at the bottom, when typed into "track a package" on canadapost.com, it says that it was picked up on March 20th. Actually, mabye that's not so far fetched: on google maps I found
Green Meadow Dr Burlington, ON, Canada
and
Meadow Ln Burlington, ON Canada
sort-of matching my "meadow Drive" address

Nobody likes bad press, see if local news or newpapers are interested in the story: "Big CORP. STEALS FROM LITTLE BOY", or something like that. It would be worth them just to give you the $300 so they don't get the bad exposure.

The mailman must have looked at the package and and recognized the street name and house number. Since it was in his bag maybe he didn't even look at the city.

http://www.ombudsman.postescanadapost.ca/Start here, don't stop until you get a full refund AND an explanation of how it happened. Get the media involved. I'm sure a local journalist would love to dig into this one.
