Good evening all,

In your opinion are Columbian Expo Half Dollars in XF junk silver? A local coin shop in my area had a couple in their junk bins and I was wondering if they were a good value, I bought a few but am considering looking for more. I know they aren't worth much in circulated grade but I was a bit surprised to see them in a melt bin for $8. Any other classic commemoratives that regularly sell for melt?

Thanks,
Joe2007

I'm not surprised they are selling those for melt, but I think they should fetch just slightly more. Booker T Washington and Washington/Carver are probably the only other 2 classic commems that make their way into the melt bin sometimes. (though the 1982 Geo. Washington I can often pick up for melt)

^^^I agree. At VF they should be junk but at XF they could definitely sell for $10-$12. My best guess is that the dealer was just to lazy to catalog it for $2 more. I know dealers who sell VF Morgans, Peace dollars and Barber quarters (even VG 3 silver cent pieces) at spot cause they are too lazy to catalog em (I live in Canada so finding Classic US Silver at spot is pretty rare.). With the Columbian Halves check your grading again and id they indeed are at XF then definitely go buy some more

Not junk but so close to junk that I wouldn't bother plucking them out if I were a dealer, not at VF-XF. At lower AU, I'm pulling them and pricing them at $15.
