A pound had 20 shillings and a shilling 12 pence and the small change would rip your pocket out by sheer weight when I visited the UK
I guess that now since they are on a decimal system they said goodbye to their ole system like a lot of euro countries are saying goodbye to their old money now that they are on the euro ( like the ultimate french frank )

G'day BadThad, your coin set is the last, or near-to-last of each of the commonly circulating denominations of coinage used in the United Kingdom before conversion to decimal currency. The "pound" remained the basic unit of currency. Pre-conversion, a pound was divided into 240 pence, or pennies ("d"). Post-conversion, one pound equalled 100 New Pence ("p"). Since then, I don't know when, the "new" has been dropped from "New Pence". The set you have would ve a useful addition to any collection of UK coins. Peter in Oz

That's interesting chrycopaul. So these are coins minted before the change to the decimal system. Since I know nothing about foreign coins, are these considered proofs or uncirculated? Are they worth anything?

They would have been uncirculated. These booklets can be picked up for a couple of dollars.

Note that chrycopaul's set is an official mint set issued by The Royal Mint. The £sd set with mixed dates would have been privately issued. quote: Peter THOMAS said: ...Since then, I don't know when, the "new" has been dropped from "New Pence"...
The word "New" was dropped from the coins in 1982.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

OK, thanks guys.
Guess I'll just stash this thing away if it's only worth "a couple bucks". Maybe it'll be worth more in 20 years.

OH....so there is a glimmer of hope! LOL Since nobody seems to know the values, I guess I'll check around Heritage or something....unless someone has a better idea.
