I posted earlier a Morgan dollar with strange striations and with the help of many, we've concluded that these parallel marks are 'roller marks' and/or 'planchet striations' that were caused during the roll-out of the strip of metal prior to minting.

My question now is....are these planchet striations classed as a 'planchet flaw'?

My reason for asking is if they are deemed as a planchet flaw then according to the PCGS grading guidelines , then this coin would be bodybagged (or graded 'details') under Code 93 - Planchet Flaw.

Here's the quote from PCGS' literature....

"Metal impurity or defect in the planchet. Small, unobtrusive planchet flaws are acceptable. Large, obvious, poorly placed, or distracting flaws are rejected. Context is also important. Planchet flaws on certain U.S. Colonial coins are expected; planchet flaws on Morgan silver dollars are not.

No, planchet striations should not be cause for a bodybag. The planchet flaw referenced would be a delamination, i.e. a chunk of the coin is missing.
