I'm in Quebec. But anyway, the shipping is 5.99 .. it's clear 3.88 is not calculated from there, it's calculated from the total.

QC tax on the coin is 9.975% of 29.88*.09975=2.98 Tax on the shipping is 5.0% GST plus PST which is (.05+.09975)*5.99=.90
Total tax is 2.98 + .90 = 3.88

I will learn to be more specific next time! I forgot not everyone pays their credit card bill in full each month. I also forgot about the pst in different provinces. I was charged tax in feb on 1 silver coin, I called and it was credited back on my cc. I find it a good way to mange my money and to get coins I missed from the mint. I was trying to be helpful. I agree 100% coins not at issue from the mint are overpriced. There is good info along with the hype and the best part is seeing the coins live they look so awesome. I wonder if its the lights? I'm surprised this turned into a 2 page thread. I posted it as information and didn't expect any responses. If I have any questions I call them and have always gotten a helpful reply.

The TSC is wrong. Unfortunately, you're probably going to have to call and try to explain it, or pay the tax.

pocket change 50: I find great your post! It's everyone decision if buying or not. There are great deals. I wanted to buy but I don't have time to waste 3 hours by phone to get charged back the taxes.

Bromberg always explains there is no HST or GST, but you will have to pay PST. I never pay GST or PST from the Mint, but on TSC or any other retailer I always pay PST.

Not all pst is created equally. Quebec sales tax, like federal gst and hst, specifically exempts tax on precious metals. I believe that manitoba, saskatchewan and bc do not.

Some of these coins are incredible, but what would you do with them?

@ Arianzo thank you for the compliment. I do need to present clearer information so people can make informed choices. Sometimes I get so excited when I post, I do omit important details. However, I can always trust knowledgable forum members to make corrections. I was able to get the caribou at a discount at CP thanks to members posts, and I got the polar bear from the coin show. These have been great opportunities for me.

@pocketchange50, that polar bear is a sweet looking coin, isn't it?

@ coinzchange I'm looking forward to three coins the most the color maple leaf/ color polar bear & caribou. I had ordered from the mint originally. However, I got impatient and cancelled my orders. I'm glad I did because I found discounts and free shipping coupled with a delayed payment on a couple, which really makes my collecting dollar go further. I'm thankful for all the timely tips posted. I wonder how many coins Canada post managed to move this weekend? It's something I never imagined would happen at CP!
