Hi everyone. I just wanted to get others opinions about 5oz silver coins and what they think of past issues, as well as the current 2014 swimming Beaver.

Had no experience of owning the 5oz's ... They are not really cheap for me, but: 1. Have only 5oz Penny - and it amazing commemorative item. 2. I think, the RCM coins, the Proofs with a limited mintage are nice, as for Beavers - the pair of 2 5oz coin could be attractive (if you have one of them and can afford the second - get it). 3. The bullions - the price for them good, very good, specially ATB series, but I do not like the finish. Koala, Kookaburra, Panda - maybe.

The two beavers and coronation were commissioned coins by Canadian Coin so they have half of the mintage kind of skewing the marketplace, but to me the best one is the penny. a cool hockey puck

The price RCM charges for the 5oz coins is ridiculous, especially with the recent tank in spot prices. That being said, I have the 2013 Coronation and 2007 60th Wedding Anniversary 5oz coins and love them both! For the 2014 5oz Silver Swimming Beaver, I find it way too busy. I wouldn't even pay spot for it, let alone $500.

Have the penny and the 25th anny SML. Both are impressive though the penny is my favourite. The others don't do much for me especially the swimming beaver. I'd buy a print of the actual photograph instead of the Coronation 5 oz. There is nothing new or exciting about that coin for me.
That said, these things are so large, they start to move away from being actual coins. I'd love to have a 1 kg, but I'm not sure I'd be able to call it a coin.

If you have a chance to hold the 1 kilo gold rim dual maple leaf coin, its a real impressive large design, a little off topic, enail from Lear Capital offering a 1.5 oz. artic fox bullion coin.

Yp, if I ever take the plunge into 1kgs it will be the 2013 gilded Maple. We're gonna need a new thread for that new bullion coin

I have the 2012 Farewell penny 5 oz... It's a great coin, but like other said, it's like a plate or a medal and not a coin... And yes, obviously, it's pricey and I think 400$ should be a fair price. By the way, there's not a big demand on the market for those coins, even for the penny farewell, not lot's of people are willing to pay 700-800$ for a silver coin... The price appreciation is less then a silver coins release at 100$ for example...

Over-priced but provides a great canvas for the artist. I think The Shannon and The Chesapeake is my favourite so far.

I appreciate al the comments on this topic evertone and hope to hear more!
I actually think the new swimming beaver is very nice, but I am into lots of detail on coins, but I also really love the farewell to the penny 5oz. Just something about having a huge penny! These do provide a nice large canvas to showcase the various designs.
Please keep the comments rolling all!

I think the nicest ones I've seen are the Chesapeake/Shannon and the Queen's Coronation. The size is impressive and really does allow for a lot. Sometimes they can be simple, like the penny and sometimes they can have lots of details, like the Swimming Beaver. These coins are usually way out of my price range, and I only own one - the Queen's Coronation. I fell in love with it the moment I first saw it. I'm glad I have it because it's really not financially feasible for me to buy these on a regular basis. If you're think about getting any, check out the Shopping Channel because he had both the beaver 5 Oz (2013 and 2014) and if $500+ seems a little much, you can get these coins on Easy Pay (interest free payments, for up to 6 months I believe). Like others have said, they tend not to appreciate too much, although for a while the Queen coin was selling for almost double price on ebay. It has calmed down a little, though. I think the size of these coins are stunning...and if I had the $$ I would be all over more of them. I definitely recommend them to collectors just because they are nice to hold and look at, but as for the designs...I could sit here and tell you my favourites, but if you're thinking of buying one, go with what you like and want. Not with what one of us tells you. :)

Yeah, sometimes it's nice to hear what other people say who actually have them. I'm holding onto my Coronation because I know I'm not getting another 5 Oz. anytime soon. ;)
It'd be nice to hear more from people who own them, as I do not. haha I have seen some in Coin Shops, though. I wonder if the beaver is going to be a yearly design?...

I've got a 5 ouncer from Bermuda, but I'd happily trade it away for some Libertads. A clunker like that is such an oddball that I have to store it separate.
