I propose a new game (without a prize), that would challenge its players to post a coin contemporary with the ruler and or issue date, accepted date of manufacture, or circulating in the time of said coin. After say, a day or so period the host would announce who is the closest chronologically to that coin. The contestant with the chronologically closest coin would become the new host and post another coin, and ask to see its contemporaries, so forth and so on. I think this game would be great for the new and advanced collector alike as we would have the opportunity to see a snapshot of the world at said date. One might be surprised to know that maybe Rome was not the most technologically advanced society in the world in the 3rd century AD. Thoughts before Proceeding are welcome... Not sure I'm understanding this. The host posts and coin and everyone else tries to post one that was issued as close as possible to the time of the host's coin? If that is correct, should I assume you mean that the contestants' coins have to be from a different empire?

You got it TIF. Although the contestants coins can be from same empire if they circulated along side the Host Coin. The point would to be to see a snapshot of the world at the time the Host Coin was "in use."

To clarify, the contestants cannot enter a coin by the same emperor? (I guess that would defeat the purpose, lol)
Sounds entertaining and educational but there aren't many active members who have things other than Romans, some Greeks, and Byzantines, so that might cause limited participation.

That's why I thinking we could allow same the same emperor. One could be a provincial and one an Imperial if the time is that of the Romans. Greek coins a lot of people have, so I think it shouldn't be a problem considering that the coinage often has blanket dates and many of these overlap. Coins from times before the major empires can be from different mint cities or cultures.

Ah Medieval. This is what you asked for? It was a good idea, but it died a quiet death. feel free to amend the rules and breath new life into the thread.

Wonder if waiting for a judgement on who is allowed to post the next one might not cause delays. Why not be the next coin posted matching the criteria be the new target? Yes, there might be a little confusion if two post around the same time, but that should not result in a fight (hopefully) because it's just for fun.
