All - I have seen some posts about "railroad" coin erros. I think this might be one. The nickel is relatively beat up - I found it stuck in the bottom of a coin counter yesterday because it couldn't slide through the aperture and it was stuck and apparently getting pounded by other coins (I just put a hellacious dump of several thousand coins through, on top of whatever had run through before).

Anyway - it appears to havet he rr track look on the side of the coin. The front and back both have severaly raised thin/sharp edges way more than is typical even on a BU cent. You can see the shadows on the pics of the front and the back.

If this is one, please let me know. Could someone also please provide a good explanation of what one is? I have seen several different variations around the internet. Thanks for looking and thanks in advance for any help.

Looks like a partial collar error to me. Nice find!

The bottom part is normal diameter and the top part is a slightly larger diameter, correct? If so, you do have a partial collar error of the parallel "railroad rim" variety(as opposed to a tilted partial collar error). It would not have much value in that condition but it is still an error so nice find
