I am just not sure when people or TPG's call modern Lincoln cents lowballs. What grade does the coin have to be in? What years too? What happens if the Zinc cent is showing zinc? (From wearing down)

LOL but look at your name. Shouldn't you know? (joking)
A friend of mine said around AG-3 to FR-2. I'm hoping not because that's too much work. Mine might be around Fine and shows zinc.

Not sure they are collected like that....yet. Would be almost too easy to get the early ones in PO!-FR2...imo. PCGS Registry does not have a lowball Lincoln set listed.

There's no specific grader other than lower is better. The goal is to have the lowest graded set.

One problem with a lowball registry zincoln is that it would have to be able to grade as problem free. Once you get down to Fine or VF and you break through the copper plating you now run the risk of zinc rot developing which would make the coin ungradable.

Depends on what you yourself thinks classifies as lowball. You yourself would be the one assembling the set.
TO make it worthwhile and fun, I would suggest aiming for really low grades such as PO1 as they will be harder to find, but you will feel really good when you find them
Good luck!

Alright thanks for the replies. From what I'm getting at is, I shouldn't try it with the zincs? Copper would be better because it's not plated. I could always use ANACS or ICG for TPG if I can ever get it to that point. I'll tell you guys one thing. The zinc cents don't wear that fast. Have had one for over 5 months. The head shows some zinc and the beard I think. But the back isn't wearing that fast. I see the steps are going but that's about it.

That's why finding the newer cents in anything less than VF is basically impossible. I would venture to say finding a zincoln in AG-G (and still gradable) would be harder than finding one in MS69.

So, not trying to say it's a bad thing or point fingers at anyone. But you guys make me feel like there's no point in even wearing down the Lincoln Cent anymore. After all that time I wasted making sure I don't loose it and having it with me....

Why not try to put together a lowball set from 1909-1982? That would still be pretty cool.

I can't see a "competitive" lowball registry for Lincolns, as they're so easy to find in heavily-circulated condition (I'm not thinking zlincolns; they're barely even coins to me). Nothing stopping one from doing it as a lark, though.
