Hey all!

As part of the CCF Secret Santa activity this year, I got this coin:
Austrian-Coin-Identification

Now it is obviously from Austria, it seems to be silver, is commemorating Johann Strauss, says what means "1000 years of Austria" on the one side, but even with all this information, I cannot find details on this coin online. Perhaps some of the great coin detectives here can help?

Austria was 1,000 years old in the year 1976, so if this was a real coin, it would be worth an amount of schillings. This is not the case, so it is probably a privately-issued medal, hopefully in silver.

I've hunted around on numista and worldcoingallery for coins and tokens of Austria dated 1976, but didn't find anything so far.

Found two others in what appears to be the same series, in a German ebay store, but no further info:

Hello, this is a sterling silver (925 = .925 = Sterling Silver) coin (or medal), struck during 1976. The striking seems to be of high quality (showing perfect proof matting and mirror-like cameo surfaces). I guess, that the spots are on the plastic, not on the coin itself.

The ones shown in the shop (mentioned by philadelphian) are made of non-precious alloy (neusilber = new silver or german silver, which is actually a good non-rusting alloy of non-precious metals = copper-nickel alloy).

Thanks for the additional info, coinworldtv! Are you sure it was struck in 1976, though? In my searching, I've found LOTS of Austrian coins with "1000 JAHRE OSTERREICH", even minted recently.
And yeah, those smudges are my fault, on the plastic only.
EDIT: I just realised from your name. THANKS CoinWorld! :D
Was an incredible gift!

It's a commemorative bullion round from 1996. They issued all sorts of medals, both official and unoffical, with famous Austrians of the past 1000 years. This looks like one of the unofficial (private) issues since it is missing a denomination and other official elements (year of emission, name of the country in official format).
I remember being in Vienna for the 1000 year celebration in 1996. They were celebrating the 1000 year anniversary of the first official mention of "Austria" in a document, it was spelled "Ostarrichi" in a grant from Otto III in 996.

See here (in German) for more info:
