Purchased a PCGS Gold membership this morning....mainly doing it for one coin, but I figured it would be a good time to get a couple more graded as well. Gold membership entitles you to 4 FREE* submissions.

This will be my first venture into letting a TPG grade my coins.....wish me luck!

I just recently did the exact same thing; it will be my first time submitting as well. I did the math and each submission will cost a little bit extra by buying the membership, but it will be easier for me to submit myself, rather than going to a certified dealer.

I hope everything turns out well for you!

Do you know if they send you your free vouchers in the mail? I assume they do, but I just want to make sure.

Yep, they ship them out in the mail with some sort of packet, as I understand it. I read somewhere that it will take 7-10 days after purchase of the membership for the packet to be sent out.

I was a little disappointed with the lack of clarity in this regard. That type of information should have been available on the memberships page before purchase and on the post-purchase information page. I shouldn't have had to go searching for it.

They send you a welcome pack, it consists of some submission forms 4 2.5 saflips and the certificate for your 4 free submissions.
I signed up 3 months ago and have sent 64 coins in so far.
I have only got grades back on 16 so far
It takes a long time when submitting from Aus

I joined the PCGS Currency website as a Silver member, and I received an email saying that something should be in the mail soon but it has been about 20 days and I still have not got anything. Also when I call them it takes forever for someone to pick up the phone. So far I am not to happy with it. I did the same only really joined so I could get 6 free notes graded.

The PCGS "free" grades are definitely not free. Once you add up all the costs involved, you'll soon see.

BadThad...I agree....but I don't have very helpful LCS in my area either. So, this is really the only way I have to submit to PCGS.

They may not be free, but you can either look at it as heavily discounted or the membership being free. Either way theyre a better deal than just getting the 50 dollar membership with no grading vouchers.

If it wouldn't be too pretentious... what is the cost of the Gold Membership and the additional cost for the four "free" PCGS grades? Is it cheaper to submit four coins through a coin shop?

Oh I don't know, I sent 4 gold coins in regular secure submission which saved me $180 in grading fees

Thanks Trout. I hope when you say 'saved' you don't mean it in the same context as my Wife. Bless her heart, but she'll go out and spend several hundred dollars on stuff we really didn't need and tell me not to sweat it, because she 'saved' money. :)

The best deal PCGS has is the 8 vouchers for $199. If you use them on older coins in the regular tier you get 256 dollars worth of grading for 199 plus a free membership. I believe you can also use them for the secure plus service which would save an additional 104 dollars and get you the trueview pictures for the coins.

The 4 coin one costs 129 which if you use on the older tier coins works out to getting the membership for free. If you use it on the secure plus service you save an extra 52 dollars.

You just cant use the vouchers on coins over 3k in value, then again if you have that many coins of that value the membership fee probably doesn't mean anything to you anyway.

Thanks... gives me something to think about. I've got about 5-6 coins that I've wanted to get graded. A couple are nice (non-key dates) UNC Merc's and few AU55 or better Walkers from the '20's.
