You can tell the coin's a forgery as one of the photos shows the edge inscription starts 'DECUS ET TUTAMEN' whereas this date should have the Scottish inscription. I reported it to ebay as a forgery and got exactly the same response as you!

Removing forgeries is bad for their business, I suppose.

Face it - ebay has gotten far too big for their britches.

Maybe it is time to start reporting to a higher controlling power - such as the Corporate Commission (or something similar)

Wonder what numismatic 'policing' would look like within the ebay enterprise? Would ebay hire a cadre of credentialed numismatic experts to evaluate challenges to listings, or contract out that service? Certainly it would cost something to do that. Wonder where those costs would be shouldered? Would ebay recognize the Coin Community Forum as a 'final' authority?

Interesting--eBay 'automatically' sends certain trading cards, such as Pokemon, out to a third party grading service for authentication if the sales/purchase price reaches or exceeds a $250(?) threshold. For example, a Pokemon card graded by PSA (and is in a PSA holder) sells for $400. That card and its holder are sent off for authentication--using an ebay mailing label provided. If the card passes, it is sent on to the buyer. Only then is the transaction complete. Do something similar for coins?

What fun...

If they did that with coins as well, what would be the turn around from initial purchase to final delivery?

I see nobody has posted here in awhile - hope I'm not resurrecting a closed thread.

What do you think is going on here? A 1885-CC Morgan for BIN $30.21? I'm guessing a stock picture of a real one but no words of "copy" anywhere in the description.

Marve65, you're probably right. The price is just too good to be true. You'll probably get a cheap copy of a Morgan dollar instead of a real one.

Jeez, after looking through the Morgan listings on ebay I think there are more fake Morgans than genuine Morgans for sale - this is ridiculous!
