1. If you check the postings under World coins one of our new members mikeqld is
giving away a set of Australian coins,
all you have to do is post in that forum- check it out.

2. Week two contest.
(ends Friday 18 February 2005)

Australia changed to decimal currency in 1966. No fity cent coins were minted in 1967 or 1968.
In 1969 The fifty cent coin was changed.

How and Why? (Two simple answers - no essays please)

At the end of the week (Friday 18 Feb) correct answers will be drawn
Have fun

Tie breaker: What is a Brass Razoo and do you have a picture of one for posting.

I am a newbie to forums and contest's. So PLEASE forgive me for my dumb questions.

1. Once you have the answer to the Week 2 Contest from mikeqld what do you do with it- Post it in the 'World' thread PM or email to the contest starter (mikeqld)

2. As for the 'tie breaker' question. The same question as above. But this answer to you, rggoddie

Thanks

Hi Mila_cent,
I'm sorry this took so long but I needed to get an answer from rggoodie how he wanted the answers for the contest.

First of all, all of the questions are for the weekly contest that is being sponsored by rggoodie this week. All of the answers to the questions should be posted here in this thread. At the end, the correct answers will be revealed and the winner will be drawn from the members who had the correct answers.

Second, the Australian Coin Giveaway is being sponsored by Mikeqld in the World/Ancients section. In order to qualify for the giveaway, you need to post in the giveaway thread in that section. There are no questions to answer for the giveaway.

I hope this clarifies things. Let me know if you're still confused. It's actually my fault. I should have separated out the giveaway in the beginning and this confusion would have been avoided. Well, I'm still learning too.

What I thought was a simple question appears to be hard- 34 views to date and no responses- It really is a simple answer maybe two parts and all the Canadians should get it right

Since you just posted the question early this morning, I don't think I would lose hope yet. Somebody said something to me about having patience I think you'll be getting answers soon.

Man, this one is tough. I'm working on it, but having no luck. Near as I can tell, it has something to do with Australia not wanting to use the British Sterling monetary system anymore. Why no 50-cent pieces were minted is still a mystery, as is that Brass Razoo thing. Sounds kind of...ummm... interesting!

Do I get partial credit?

Hello rggoodie,

I have NO real knowledge of identifying or grading of coins, but am willing to learn. [:p] However, in answering your 'contest' question I found a site that explains this BUT, I haven't the foggiest on how to explain in 1 or 2 simple sentences. . If you like I can post the site in which I found the info.

As for the 'tie breaker' question: An imaginary coin that has little or no value.
He didn’t have a brass razoo.

Hint

One way the coin changed can be found by looking at it.

The answer has nothing to do with the years it was not minted.

The other has to do with value like american quarters and other "silver coins"

Brass Razoo is just a tie breaker.

I do own a brass razoo - will post picture later

Ok...Just a guess the Kangaroo was the change. I'm assuming the Queen was the face of the coin before the change.
The value of the coin increased
Rest in Peace

The half became multi-sided.

I don't have a photo of a Brass Razoo because if I remember right it really don't exist. It like a slang term the represents a coin that has no value.

The Half became multi sided. They switched because the silver content was removed and the coin became CU.
