Newp From Fun, Betts-Unlisted. Undated Le Regiment De LA Calo

Engraved by noted French engraver and medalist Joseph-Charles Roettiers, the obverse includes the legend RIDERE REGNARE EST and depicts King Louis XV as a jester, enthroned among the clouds. J.C. Roettiers fecit is engraved at bottom center. The reverse legend reads LUNA DUCE AUSPICE MOMO. The design on that side features jesters' arms. The Regiment de la Calotte was a society of satirical and witty men.
