I want to know how long those ICCS coin holders last, if they ever break or ware in time. I have a coin that's been in one for 5 years and it doesn't look to bad. If you still don't know what I'm talking about then I will say this, the paper inside that says the grade is yellow.

Thanks

For larger coins the holder will become drittle and the inner flip will crack and eventually open.

So what does ICCS charge to grade coins? I've seen those plastic holders, and IMHO, they look cheap / cheesy. Doesn't seem like they'd last too long unless stored under the optimum condition for something like that...

Certification is $13 if I'm not mistaken.

I wrote them and never heard anything. Maybe NJ is too far south. The bag is awful and a nightmare to photograph coins in. The grading is accurate. They should just redesign perhaps like the original gen 1 PCGS rattler a sweet holder nice to photograph.

I think they should raise their cost to the $20 range and start slabbing coins than it would be the great opinion of ICCS with a better holder, than they would get better business, grade much more valuable coins and people would be much more comfortable sending coins there for long term storage and not just a short term opinion.

ICCS holders are pretty old school. The inner inert flip cracks very easily, especially if the coin is a half dollar or dollar. Holders containing nickels, dimes and small cents seem to hold up pretty well over time.

I once sent a half dollar with a damaged inner flip to be reholdered. When the coin came back the inner flip on the new holder was cracked. I sent it back again and it came back cracked again. The flip simply could not stand up to the normal jostling caused by being mailed.

CCCS offers grading and encapsulation in a hard slab. ICCS certainly must be aware of the limitations of their product. Methinks that they are not inclined to change anytime soon.
