My huband inherited some coins we know nothing about. We noticed that this one has the letter K stamped on it and it looks like number 73 engraved/carved/scratched into it. It is sealed so it had to have been purchased like this. Is there a meaning behind the K and 73?
All the small marks you see by his lips, forehead, behind the head,by the r of Rex and the bottom of the left pillar are called chopmarks, they were not on the coin during minting but they were done during trade to determine the coins authenticity. It also appears your coin was cleaned which lowers the value. Interesting fact:the modern dollar sign($) was inspired by the 2 pillars design on your coin.
