I have a set of Chinese Lunar coins in a 2 Tier Cherrywood box. The coins are silver and come with a certificate written in Chinese. I have had this translated and it has information on the Lunar animals and the history of the Lunar years. I have been told this is a rare set as it is in a unique presentation box as pictured. Any help would be greatly appreciated as to value, mintage etc. I have enclosed photos for reference showing the box, certificate and one of the coins. Thanks to all in advance.
These are medals, not coins. Some come in brass, some come in silver. The silver ones usually have Ag 999 somewhere on them. The sterling ones don't always. The sets in the wooden boxes always go for a premium. I have never seen this set, but I have seen Lunar and Panda sets like it go for $1500 at auction. Can you give us pictures of the COA, too see if it is in fact silver.
