I have this one: Ships, especially sailing ships, lend themselves to the round shape of a coin. Something about the 'roundness' of the sails.

Well, if we're posting dream collection coins, how about this gold angel? Extra credit to anyone who can name the English monarch it was minted for!

I guess I am reading it wrong, but on the obverse at 1 o'clock I think I see Edward

You're getting warm. Warm and Fuzzy! The clue to which Edward is the privy mark, which is right before the E in EDWARD.

A king on a ship. Let's see if anyone can guess where this coin was minted: A Rhode Island Ship token or medal. Lots of ships and boats on this one.

Wow, GERMANICVS, is that ryal (half-ryal?) yours, or is it a "dream collection" coin? By the way, REX ANGL in the obverse legend, and the arms of the King of England on the shield carried by the figure of Edward IV. Mintmark is a crown; probably London mint, but I think it might be any one of a few other mints. I guess the ryal was the first English coin with a ship, right? And I was hoping someone would post a Rhode Island ship token!

Philadelphian, this is actually a Flemish Gold Noble - minted in the city of Gorinchem in the Netherlands in the period 1583-1591, imitating the style of Edward IV's Gold Nobles of one hundred years earlier. This imitative coinage is in fact scarcer than the original english nobles for Edward IV and are listed in the Spinks catalogue of coins of the UK. It is part of my collection I am glad to say.
