Scant info on this, but for £2.25 it would make a nice paperweight.
From what I've found, these poured rods are this shape to make each node the equivalent weight of one coin. The variations in shape and depth of fill cause the varying weights of the coins. The nodes are cut away and then...well, I assume some more work is required before striking. 24 gram rod, 7 nodes, so about 3.5 grams per coin.
Found in England, it mustve been dropped between a mine and a mint. If that's what it is, which I'm not so sure about. Looks old...ill ask the local museum their thoughts.
