A friend of mine has recently subscribed the the US Mint. When do they actually usually ship from issue date and do they send an email? Thanks.

I'll relate what's happened for my latest subscription, hopefully this will answer your question. I have a subscription for the 100-coin Smokey Mountains P, D and S quarter bags. On 1/10/14 I received this email

Quote:
The United States Mint will be processing your subscription order for the 2014 United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters® Bags and Rolls -Great Smoky Mountains National Park (TN) in approximately 3 weeks. Our records indicate you have the following subscription (s):

1 America the Beautiful Quarters Two 100-Coin (Philadelphia & Denver) Bag Set(s)

1 America the Beautiful Quarters 100-Coin (San Francisco)(s)

As of 1/24/14 I have two new order numbers for these products (yes, two, not one) which both say "In stock and reserved". I called the Mint this evening about these orders and the customer service rep said that they are not officially shipped yet, but they are too close to shipping to be cancelled at this time. She said they will probably go out the door tomorrow. So, to recap, order numbers appear on 1/24, possibly shipped by 1/28, no shipping confirmation email received yet.

In case you're wondering, I called to find out if I was being hit with two separate $4.95 shipping charges because they are filling the subscription in two separate order numbers and guess what... I am because they are. That's how I found out it was too late to cancel the subscription. I had her cancel all my remaining subscriptions that don't qualify for the 10% discount. Since those will probably be filled as separate orders as well, I'll save myself some money and just order them myself without the subscription.

TJB17... you have just described the number 1 reason many of us canceled the subscriptions we had prior to the 10% discount. I selectively chose which products to subscribe to this year - based on the shipping price being offset by the discount. I'll group the other products and buy them as I have the time and money to do so.

angel - I got a notification about 2 or 3 weeks ago that my subscription to the 2014 Silver Eagle proof would be shipping after the 1st of February. Usually they ship near the release date - it depends on supply and demand. I can't say I get 100% notifications of shipping, but I usually get an email indicating they have shipped much like any other order I place.

Thank you both! The reminder email did come so hopefully all goes well. I agree on subscriptions for items not on sale and grouping them to save on shipping. Sub not worth it for them

Each separate line item on a subscription order has its own shipping charge even if they are released on the same day, such as the scenario with the Smoky Mountain quarter bags described above, unless the release date falls in a future window that the Mint will offer free shipping as they did last summer and over the holidays. What happens prior to release date is that these orders are processed first, usually 3 days to a week before. The CC gets charged the day before it ships and the interval between processing the order (note new order #) can be as long as a week or more. For example, my proof ASEs were processed on Friday, 1-17, but I wasn't charged until yesterday, 1-28 and they were shipped out the slow boat method today, 1-29. So be aware of any pending subscriptions you may have. I usually get a notification from the Mint on shipping but not always. Use the "track order" feature on their website for order updates.
