I'm thinking of buying these two coins.

Can I have any info on them please, and how much is the most I should pay?
Also, do they both look authentic?

I have no idea on the values of these coins but the first one looks like a fake to me. The details rub me the wrong way for some reason.

The first one seems very crude for a gold coin. I don't think it is an official issue of Phocas (sometimes spelled Focas). Not my area of expertise really. But I can see that it is pretty bent up. Never a good thing ! I would not pay a huge amount over melt for a cruddy gold coin. Too many good ones !

Second appears to be Justinian and quite nice. Better color too. I leave the valuation estimate on this to greater minds than mine.

Thanks, will take the advice and leave the first coin.

The second is a very nice coin, but it would be the most I have spent on a byzantine gold coin, so definitely could do with price estimates please.

It looks the nicest condition of any I see, and great print... but then I look again and wonder is the lack of detail in the face going to reduce the value?
The face looks a lot plainer than other coins I can find like this?
Any views appreciated?

The first coin is Focas (Phocas) and is a AV tremissis Sear #633. It's value is around $175-$200.
The second is Justinian I and is and AV Solidus Sear # 137, value is $325-$350.
