These guys were only taking advantage of the anonymous international characteristics of Bitcoins, to the extent that they are an ideal untraceable way for paying for drugs, across national borders.

Bitcoins themselves are still very much alive and well.
I would think that they are increasingly becoming a headache for national governments in knowing how confront them.

They provide an excellent way of avoiding sales or purchase taxes. That means honest taxpayers have to pay more, to make up for those who would prefer to not pay tax.

I won't be touching Bitcoin's with a 10 foot pole. A lot of people will scam their way to riches and then the system will crash. I like to keep my net worth, not give it away to some hacker.
