Does anyone know more about this silver Roman coin with three standards ? Which emperor ?
The diameter of the coin is 15mm. The weight is about 1.5 grams. None of the letters can be read.

Thanks in advance. Sorry for the poor quality of the pictures.

It looks like Elagabalus

like this example-

Elagabalus A.D. 218-222
AR Denarius
Struck A.D. 220-222
IMP ANTONINVS PIVS AVG, laureate and draped bust right.
FIDES MILITVM, legionary eagle between two standards, shields at base of each.
RIC IV 78; BMCRE 201; RSC 44.

Hi,

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I have taken some new pictures of the coin. Maybe these are a little bit better. I also thought about Severus Alexander. Is it possible that there is such a difference in the standards between those of your picture and my coin ?

Thanks for the effort and I hope I can learn a lot here. Collecting Roman coins is so fascinating but you need the experience.

Greetings from Belgium

Hans

Based on the size and the portrait Elagabalus is a good bet. The denarius was reduced as it was being replaced by the 'antoninianus' as the silver coin of choice.
Looks like it was very harshly cleaned ! Do not attempt to clean or oterwise 'improve' a coin unless you are certain of what you are doing. Over cleaning is the surest and simplest way to destroy an ancient coin.
When in doubt ..... Don't do it !!!
