Ok now that I have seen Nohope587s and some of you other guys' finds I want to get a metal detector? What kind would you reccomend looking at? I want it mostly for coins, and small stuff, and I dont want to spend too much money. Maybe 250 bucks?

edit. Also what kind of places do you reccomend searching in? I have an old house on my property. We also just bought a 180 acre ranch that has a real old hunting cabin, and a few barns. Are these typicly good places?

Anywhere that people have congregated on a regular basis for a length of time is a good place to hunt.
I don't want to sway your choice of detector because I am biased towards mine. Look in the yellow pages for a supplier in your area and go try out a few also check out the pawn shops. The ones in my area at least usually have one or two in stock. As with everything you get what you pay for but you should be able to get a reasonable detector for your budget.

Didn't look to see when Bobby posted this, but it looks like a pretty good place with lots of options. Some I believe to be in your price range.

I have been thinking about an Ace 250. What do you think?

Metalman told me that both Whites and Garretts make good entry level machines at under $250

A couple of years ago, my brother bought a metal detector. His wife went out and hid some coins in the yard to see if he could find them. He didn't find any of the coins, but he found a $20 bill in the front yard. Go figure!

For what you're looking for, I recommend what I use - A White's Prizm 2 - which you can get for a little over two hundred bucks. Unlike the Ace 250, White's detectors are made in America.
