I recall that someone had calculated total SD mintage from studying die pairs. If I can find the details, I'll post here.

On proof coins, they run about 3,000 coins before retiring the dies. (6,000 strikes on cents as they strike a proof coin twice.)

Coop - Does 'retire' mean before moving into Production? Or these proof dies are unique and decommissioned?

DVC - thanks! I figured that it was likely a topic discussed. Still getting used to the forum application. I find that the Search tool is rather basic, but I haven't explored it well in all honesty. A SEARCH is a terrible thing to waste!

The small date 1970-S' are the premium ones. How do I know? Check your " Red Book".
