What's your thoughts on these denticles.....? Are the both large, small, or different? The coin is a 1948 penny.

Good Question....

I seem to have some that are shorter and wider too. So are these errors or what, I wonder too.

Well - if the second "A" in Gratia points to a small denticle, then that's the coin you want ; and the coin on the left in the picture points to one, but not sure if it's a large or small. Not that it's any big deal, but I'm trying to learn some of this stuff; and it's definitely not a 'cake walk' trying to identify some of the variations that exist !

What I have been told about the denticles is if the I in Gratia can go between the denticles you have the good one

That's tough Papeldog - almost looks like the 'I' in the left coin would fit, but would be tight! I'm glad the coin is maybe a VG or F, because if it was a MS-65 I'd probably go gray over it !!

Right side denticles and rim look more worn than the left side.

I agree with wert, the right coins is worn on the rim and denticles and makes it look different.

OK - well thanks people - so the difference between large and small denticles - on good graded coins ; would it be obvious to an untrained eye with a magnifying glass, or is it actually a fine line between the two ? I have a 16X Ruper, and I looked so long and hard that eventually everything in the room became fuzzy.......!

Those denticles are identicle-----Optical illusion due to worn denticles on the right coin. Spaces and number of denticles are exactly the same.
