I'm hoping that some members on here might be able to help me with this.
I'm wondering what the actual composition is of Mexican coins from the 40's into the 60's.
I'm not just looking for the precious metal content but the base metal content too.

Thanks guys

Two options for accurate results:
-Contact La Casa de Moneda de Mexico (Mexico City Mint) and email them a question. They try to maintain an image of transparency, so this type of question shouldn't be out of line.

-Bring some coins into a refinery for an assay. For a fee they will tell you the exact compositions.

My amateur guess is that there some copper along with a tinge of zinc (some .720 fine silver coins turn yellow after circulating).

I sent a email to the mint. . Crossing fingers

I'm particulary interested in the 1964 peso.

1957-1967 Mexico 1 Peso: 0.100 Silver, 0.700 Copper, 0.100 Nickel, 0.100 Zinc. Planchets weigh 16g and 34.5 mm in diameter. They are dipped in a bath of pure silver before striking to improve appearance.

I just worked the metal on this peso. That metal is TOUGH, wow, it's about as bad as nickel white gold (15-20% nickel) maybe harder. I'm surprised it doesn't have a higher nickel composition than just 100/1000 parts. In future, if you need a translation I may be of help.
