Thank you Wireman09, I'm glad to share them with the board. Collecting these coins is truly a labor of love and extreme patience. I started assembling this set in 2005 and it has taken this long to find original pieces that meet my criterion, that being relatively smooth surfaces without hairlines or really pronounced rim-dings.
Long-time collectors of Victorian-era Canadian coins know that fifty-cent pieces were the workhorses of their day, which makes it extremely difficult to find examples that are not well-used.

Nice. I saw that you had a PCGS registry set....
I'm trying to catch up to the number 2 set but I'm having trouble finding examples that fit my specifications, and that I can afford. The number 1 set is miles ahead of me and will probably remain that way forever, unless I win the lottery....

Lantern Collection (a collector from Calgary) and Southern Cross tend to be fairly heavy hitters in the hobby. There is something to be said for 100% completion though, and you just need to send in your 1901. When I finally find my 1982 Constitution dollar in coinage strike, PCGS MS-64 or better - It will be a sad day for Lantern Collection, because grade wise, he'll never catch my dollar set.... (my weighted GPA is already considerably higher). http://www.pcgs.com/SetRegistry/all...aspx?s=82059

Nice sets! How are the composition requirements for the registry sets determined? Why are some varieties, graded by PCGS,not included? I know that PCGS will acknowledge '72 A/V, yet it's not a variety included in the set requirement.

The A/V is part of the registry set. The different obverse varieties are not however, probably because nobody has suggested it. I'm content with the basic set. Someday maybe I will work on the obverse varieties for the fun of it, but for now I'd like to make some headway on upgrading my current set.

Great coin Coin Addict! A wonderful demonstration of the virtues of persistence and frugality!Well George, I can't say that I have been too frugal with this set. When certified problem-free examples of the 1870 No LCW, 1890 and 1894 came along on ebay several years back I was prepared to pay whatever it took to acquire those dates, as they are extremely difficult. Two of them were Buy It Now and they were listed at 100% of Trends, which in looking back, seems like a bargain. I've been tempted to acquire one or two more lower grade problem-free 1890's but I have yet to find one that isn't marred by some sort of problem. This is the recurring theme of the entire Victorian fifty cents series.
