Junius Silanus Manlianus, praetor 142-141 BC AE, 20 x 22 mm, 9.5 gm Obv: Facing mask of Silenus, wearing ivy wreath. Rev: MAKE deltaONΩN legend In two lines; D above; all within ivy wreath. Ref: SNG Copenhagen 1324 I first saw this type a few months ago while trolling through the CNG archives, looking for different types of facing-portrait coins. Caught my eye, moved near the top of the BUY list For those who don't know, Silenus was the god of wine making and dancing. Basically a party animal. I went ahead and bid on (and won) two coins from Pecunem because I really thought the odds of me succeeding with the big coin, staying within my predetermined max, was slim. But yay, I won it!
