Hello all,

This is my first post so please pass on any advice if you find any mistakes.

My name is Rob. I am a newbie to this forum and coins in general. Last month, a friend of my Dad's passed away and my Dad is Trustee to his Trust and responsible for settling all of his friend's affairs. This friend had a large coin collection and despite my inexperience I am working on creating an inventory. This work has been enjoyable and I can see myself getting caught up in this hobby.

Nevertheless, a lot of this collection will have be sold and I am running the Estate Sale (most of it on ebay).

I am stuck on a particular item and would be grateful for any feedback in identifying it. The item is a gold-plated bronze coin/medal with Louis XIV on the obverse and Breton listed as the artist. On the reverse, is a figure of what I believe is Nike. The entire thing is set in either real or fake amethyst with a gold chain. We found a tag / COA as well. Please take a look at the pictures I've uploaded and let me know if you have any feedback. Thank you.

First of all,

Now to the medal, by what the ribbon says, "Conversational Piece", I believe that this is indeed a replica.
I have no experience with this type of stuff, but it seems too shiny/new to be from 1684

Thanks for the welcome. I appreciate it. I agree with you and considering the environment this piece was found in (smoker's home with ocean humidity), it can't be from 1684. With all the googling I've done trying to track down an origin, I've learned that there were restrikes of these types of coins done in Paris in the late 70's and early 80's. I haven't been able to find any similar pieces with the reverse Nike image. Thanks again.
