I have a coin that is currently in a MS66+ CAC PCGS holder, in which I strongly feel the coin can upgrade to a MS67. I just don't want the graders to feel as if it has a CAC sticker on it, there is no chance for an upgrade. What should I do? Leave it on or take it off? What do you guys think will increase the odds of an upgrade?

I believe a CAC sticker doesn't mean the coin is the actual grade given, but means the coin is at least that grade or the high end for that grade, if that makes sense. CAC won't assign the grade it actually thinks the coin is. If a true MS67 coins is slabbed MS66 it should most definitely receive a CAC sticker. I would leave it on, as if I was a grader, it would mean I better look closely at this coin.

In truth (depending on potential value loss) I'd still lean towards cracking and submitting it raw. We have no way of knowing what the internal attitude at PCGS is towards CAC; they could just as easily be angry and spiteful as they could be intimidated by them. Yes, the Bean should cause them to seriously reconsider the grade - a 66+ which (by CAC definition) is "good for the grade" should be worth a serious look as a 67.

But if you're looking for a 67 where one does not yet exist - and I think that's your situation - it's probably easier for PCGS to imagine that first 67 as coming from a coin they've never seen before than being one they already had and didn't grade that way. Of course, if it's currently in a newer slab they probably have a detailed-enough record of it to know they've seen it before, and they're not likely to create new wealth in that fashion.

It's a crapshoot, however you do it.

I hate to revive threads, but I'm curious.
How did this turn out?
Submitted raw, etc?
