If someone else is bidding on this let me know and I will back off. Just a rare thing to see a coin with this paperwork.

I dont even know the value of the coin, but id exercise caution. I nearly got a set of coins with an old ID note - the note didnt actually match the coin. Also, the seller backed out and the coisn were fake, but thats not so important.
If they match, then it would be an excellent piece to have. Certainly worth a premium over the price of the coin.

Forgive my suspicion but how do you know that coin is the one referred to in the letter ?

I am not 100 percent Pertinax, but it's the same if they do a coin id now, only difference is the picture on the paper. Good piece to have if all is good? Thats why I posted, going to bed in a min but will bang in a higher bid if we all think it's good?

Interesting looking coin with a neat looking certificate. However I have some doubts about the coin. These coin usually weigh in at over 12 grams and 26 mm. The weight on this coin is off by more than 2 grams. The certificate looks genuine, but it could be from another coin. If the coin is legit in it current condition, it would be worth in the are of $175. I would stir clear of this one.

Thanks Ron, will take a dive on it. Was going to go to 150 GBP but didn't know the weight difference. The paperwork and seller both look good, but will give it a miss now thanks

The note from the venerable Spink and Son matches the coin for sale. Provenance, yes. That is the value. The coin looks to have been over polished, not from natural circulation wear.

Thanks Masis, do you think the weight difference not a problem then? 2 grams is a big gap from the norm. I do like it but I have to agree the weight is pretty light.

I think at £92 (when I last checked) is about right for that coin in that condition including the description letter from Spink and Son. For £150 - 300 far better AR Tetradrachms can be bought.

I was watching his Caracella similar handwriting on some of the documents. I love that silver coin over polished or not. No idea on value.

The description seems to match the coin, but weather this paperwork is original to the coin or if the coin is original to the paperwork I could not say. The coin looks authentic and the features the weak wreath on the obverse and the decent reverse is common to the type. This type of Greek coin is actually fairly common, and fairly common in higher grades. The coin being offered was over polished, which was also common to the time of which the coin was being sold. It was not uncommon for well to do British/ American folks have the servants polish the silver ware, and when doing so the coins were included. If the paperwork is legit than the coin is worth more than an undocumented piece, but if your just looking for an exmaple of the type of coin, regardless of monograms and minor device variations one could be had for a few hundre dollars. err...180 ish pounds...what I tryed to do when I was looking for the type, was to find one that was not too overly cleaned one that was well centerd with a stronger strike on the obverse. The strike is usually weak on the obverse across the series. I like mine...
