I hope these won't be overpriced. I might grab me one just for the looks.

The US mint just recently posted the 2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame coins under their Upcoming Products list and they look very nice. Gold has spiked recently with the Ukraine situation and the not so great China PMI information in the last few weeks so I'm putting off on the Uncirculated HOF gold coin in hopes of gold going down in the latter half of the year.

Just FYI, the Mint's listing for the silver dollar coins includes an error. As of Saturday, March 15 (11:00am Eastern), it indicates that the limit on the silver coins is 50,000. The authorizing legislation indicates 50,000 for the gold coins, but 400,000 for the silver dollar and 750,000 for the clad half-dollar.
I'm assuming it was a copy-and-paste error when the pages were being produced and not an unnecessary reduction in the number of silver dollars that will be available for purchase. I hope they correct the error soon - no need to create a "feeding frenzy" on the opening day of sales based on a typo!

I was watching a video where the US Mint director Richard Peterson said that the clad baseball coins were more difficult to mint because the different layers of metal were separating due to the curve in the coin. I'm looking forward to the clad proof and uncirculated if the price is right.

Some of the prices are finally up. 51.95 for proof silver dollar, 47.95 for the uncirc. 19.95 for the proof half dollar and 18.95 for the uncirc. Gold is still TBD

I think the prices for the silver dollar and clad half-dolar are reasonable. The SD price is a slight advance over the Civil Rights dollar, but only about 5%. I thought the Mint might raise the prices more than that to account for the special production requirements of the curved planchet. I'm pleased.
FYI: Updating my previous post about mintages for the coins, the Mint has corrected its web site to reflect the 400,000 maximum mintage for the SD vs the 50,000 limit that was originally listed.

Here we go, in case any of you were wondering whether these were going to be slabable. It appears that NGC has been chosen as the "official" grader of these coins, as they are the only ones able to use the official Baseball Hall of Fame logo on their labels. ARTICLE

I just do not like giving a $50 "donation" to the Baseball Hall of Fame. This organization just does not seem "worthy". Baseball, a multi-billion organization should support it, not coin collectors.

That's a shame ngc got the sole rights to it as I would have loved a pcgs one with that one. I'd still love to see some with a signature from hall of framers
Storm youre not 50 to the hof and the mlb does support it. Frankly this one is needed if you want to see the series remain popular. Sales have been absolutely miserable on the last two

I'm not a big baseball fan myself though Mom is so I will likely acquire these for her I tell myself I am not going to buy any coins or books until I get my cc paid off then something comes along and my sales resistance goes out the window. -MV

The prices above include a surcharge of $35 per gold coin, $10 per silver dollar, and $5 per half dollar, which will be distributable to the National Baseball Hall of Fame to help finance its operations. If you want one of each coin, you are 'donating' $50 to a millionaire club.

Mint News blog has this for the gold pieces...
"If the average price of gold for the coming week remains within the $1,300 to $1,349.99 range, then the uncirculated version of the coin would be priced at $419.75 and the proof version would be priced at $424.75."
I think the gold coins have a chance to sell out quickly.
Stormdog... many of us are also not thrilled with the surcharge. I agree the Billionaires and Millionaires should simply fund the HOF and call it a day (or even just a couple of hours of their pay). If you feel strongly enough - seek out a 2nd party reseller and purchase the coins from them. While you'll still be paying the surcharge indirectly - it will be one less going directly to the HOF.
