As I understand it, They're not available yet but they should be soon directly from the US Mint: http://www.usmint.gov/

Everyone just assumes that their release will coincide with the opening day of Major League Baseball season.

Still dont have a release date posted. Id love opening day, but were not that far off from it at this point. They could also be waiting for the HOF induction ceremonies.
These probably wont have much of a problem selling which makes me think theyre going to hold these to try and get some more sales for the Civil Rights coins before these get all the attention.

Quote: 3/27 release date on the mint website now. Nestled nicely between the first games of the season played in Australia between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks which will be played on March 22/23 and the first games played stateside on March 30. Looking forward to the release!

Really hoping gold craters so I don't have pay through the nose for an uncirculated gold coin. Had a feeling gold would jump back before the HOF coins were released, even when commodity experts were expecting gold below $1000/oz a few months ago.
I'm just not happy about shelling out for a coin at $1300/oz rate when it was $1150ish/oz just a few weeks ago (that's something like a $40-50 uptick on price), but I've been waiting awhile for this series, so whatever.

I've been wanting a gold coin and I like baseball so I'm thinking about getting this coin. Do you think this coin is worth getting? I've never bought a commemorative before.

I think the gold commemorative coins of the last few years will be highly sought for their low mintage numbers. The trend has been going on for a few years and these coins retain their value very well. As for the Baseball Hall of Fame coins, you'll have coin collectors and baseball aficionados interested in these coins well after they sell out in December. I like the organization, how the mint got people involved in the design and I'm sure the design will be fine. Even if the gold coins are a flop or if something odd happens like unusually high mintage numbers like those of the large 1980's/1990's gold commemorative mintage numbers, we still have the long-term appreciation of gold prices so there is a lot going on for this and future gold commemorative coins as a long term holding.

Ill be surprised if the mintage on these doesn't end up close to the max if not sold out across the board. These do have a lot of things going for them though with a popular subject matter, a nice design (even though its recycled on all of them), and the novelty of being a curved coin thats not likely to be repeated anytime soon.
I agree this is the first one in quite a while that has the potential to get a lot of non collectors interested in it. I've never bought a gold commem either but this will likely be my first

The maximum mintages for the Baseball HOF gold and silver coins are a bit lower than recent coin programs. The gold $5.00 coin maximum is 50,000 vs. the more typical 100,000 and the maximum for the silver dollar is 400,000 vs. the more typical 500,000. I think this will create a perception of "less available" among collectors and will thus also help to spur sales of the coins.

750k limit for the half dollar too. That seems excessive but that could also be the one that gets more non collectors with the lower price point. Id still be surprised if that one sold out, but I think the gold or silver has a chance too unless they look weird in hand.
