I am getting more and more interested in U.S. Gold coinage (the pre-1933 era). CCF members do you have any recommendations for reference books to help me learn more about these coins and their history?

Thanks!

In general or are you wanting to focus on a specific denomination or mint?

I have the following:

A Guide Book of Double Eagle Gold Coins by Q. David Bowers (Bowers Series #2)

A Guide Book of Gold Dollars by Q. David Bowers (Bowers Series #12)

Indian Gold Coins of the 20th Century by Mike Fuljenz

Gold Coins of the Dahlonega Mint 1838-1861 by Douglas Winters

Gold Coins of the Carson City Mint by Douglas Winters

Gold Coins of the New Orleans Mint by Douglas Winters

I don't have Encyclopedia of US Gold Coins: 1795-1933 by Jeff Garrett. This one might be the one to pick up as it covers everything. On Amazon, the 2nd edition will let you look inside the book.

My apologies for the lengthiness of this reply.

No need to apologize for the lengthy reply, I appreciate it. I think the Encyclopedia of US Gold coins would be a great starting place for me, so I will look into that one and then perhaps expand from there. As far as my interests, basically any gold coins from the U.S. from quarter eagles on up to double eagles.

Try the Whitman Publishing web site. Request a catalog. They print almost all coin magazines around.
