I'm new here and I recently came across a coin and after some research, I've found that it could very possibly be a "Scott Restrike", one of 500. Everyone here knows alot more about this than me, so I'd appreciate if you all could either confirm my theory or debunk it. Here's a picture of the front and back:

I've learned enough tonight to know that the front is the seated liberty and the back is the confederate shield, it's got 1861 printed on the bottom of the front, and for the life of me, I can't find a letter to help me figure out where it's minted...

Thanks alot!

My first instinct is to say that coin is fake. The details on the obverse look all wrong to me. Is it possible to get better, larger, clearer photos? That could help.

Sorry I do hope we are all wrong, and I do hope you have a genuine coin. But I have to agree with everyone else.

to me it looks like a cast counterfeit

Unfortunately I don't have a decent digital camera. I have a 2MP cell phone camera phone, but of course, it doesn't zoom with enough detail. I'll try to get my hands on a friend's camera so I can get a decent picture. Thanks for all of your help!

Also, check out my other post about the California commemorative coin I have.

Thanks again.
