I'm seeing more and more Canadian coins that have been cross graded between ICCS & CCCS ( ICCS second )
The only reason someone would go through the trouble on a coin worth less then a hundred dollars is the fact that ICCS does not want to move into hard holders.
I know ICCS is having a hard time moving into the 20th century but they must see the money they are throwing away by not offering this service.
One seller that I've been watching is Colonial Acres... they also have some coins that are graded by CCCS ....BUT !! not ICCS does this mean that ICCS came back with a lower grade so they just left that info out?

I have bought many coins from C.A. and I have been more then happy every time, this is just something I've noticed.

On a side note, I find the blue colour of CCCS holders to be very ugly.
I wish they would have went with black and white!
I have a few coins in NCG holders very very nice.
I think if I was going to send in a Canadian coin to be cross graded I would send it to NCG and ICCS

If I was to do this who do you think I should send it to first, both seem to have no problem putting the others info on their holder.

Here is one way of doing it.

I think I would do it the other way though, ICCS first.
Just random thoughts of someone who is sick of winter...

Really? Have you ever seen a brown cent in a NGC slab? Also I find recent NGC gradings questionable (liz had a shark-bitten cheek on an MS-66 cent).

I on the other hand really like the CCCS slabs, although a bit muted colored label (as in older PCGS holders) would have been even better.

I just recently sent in 20 or so MS Queen Victoria large Variety coins to CCCS for hard slabs. I really like the way CCCS hard slabs are made and when filing them in a box the top of the slab also tells you what the year is, the denomination, and grade. When looking at it straight on it also tells you all the info as the top plus the variety that it is. Another thing they will do on your hard slab is for 1859's they will put the DP9 that it is according to Charlton like DP9 #1, #2, #3, #4,#5, inverted 9, and the Haxby numbering system PC-59 ? whatever the Id # is. No other grading service offers this yet as far as I know I'm sticking with Louis at CCCS there grading Canadian coins is second to none.

From an earlier discussion of the cross-graded coins.

Quote:
Hello Everyone :)

To shed some light on this topic in regards to the large number of CCCS/ICCS cross graded coins you have noticed on our website lately. We recently negotiated a larger deal where the original owner had all his coins graded by ICCS but preferred the hard plastic holders offered by CCCS. He got all his coins transferred into CCCS Holders and when he decided he wanted to sell his collection it was strongly recommended by us as a dealer to have them cross graded by ICCS. This is a big help as a seller to sell of his coins. Since all the coins were originally in ICCS holders almost all coins came back with matching grades.

As always feel free to email or call us at the store and we will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. :)

I think CCCS is neat, nice to see hard slabs on offer in Canada... the flimsy ICCS flips make me feel like I should have gotten more for my money! But with at least $20 on the line I don't think I own a single coin valuable enough to send in.

Falcon,

I will often cross grade higher value coins from NGC to ICCS. It really comes down to market preference as well as trust in ICCS' grading, long grading history in Canada and holder consistency that the Canadian marketplace has looked for in the past. I like CCCS and I think in time they will do very well in Canada as the market looks for packaging variety. So will the other 2 large TPGs.

I bought some of the cross graded coins from CA. I also bought some of the CCCS hard slab only coins from CA. I was quite pleased with both.

What is really the significance of cross-grading? A second opinion on a rare coin or something?

CCCS is as consistent as the old ICCS. The hard holders are as good as it gets. The moronic dealers are the only ones beating up CCCS because of their stock in ICCS holdered material.. I make a lot of money buying CCCS holdered coins and having them put in ICCS holders with higher grades then flipping them. People buy the holder.....not the coin. LOLOLOLOL
