I see coins with United States of America listed as confederate. This one looks similar to some of I've seen on Google but I don't understand the R to the right of the shield. This coin has been in storage for over sixty years. I don't think it would be ink?

Does anyone have any ideas about the R or the value of the coin from viewing the pictures?

I thought that might be but I haven't seen any other images with an R in that location.

R....for replica? The original Scott restrikes http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/340402 would have had 19 buds on the reverse. Common replicas, like yours, often only have 17 buds.

I have one of these also, except mine is stamped "COPY" above and to the left of the shield, right next to the turban-looking thingy. Mine also doesn't appear to be cast.
