Well I just woke up to the happiest post I could have... a total mystery coin I'm leaning towards German State's of the early to mid-1800's Your mystery coin looks copper so that helps and being worn down is all part of the challenge... Crown and shield on one side and a wreath on the other... How big is it? size in millimeters could help a lot. Failing that comparison to other coins is good too. Accurate weight might help, coin shops have jewelers have nice scales, if you don't. German State of Nassau c39 1 Kreuzer (1832-1835) I was also seeing coins from Baden and Bavaria with a similar design. Not to cast the net too wide but there are similarities to Italian, Danish and Norwegian coins of the same period. I'm still leaning more towards Germany thou. EDIT: I don't think the Nassau coin is right, the wreath is not as full at the bottom and the shield is wrong, but that is the closest I could find a picture of. I'll keep looking

Thanks for the time and help I've just measured it and it's 27mm and weighs 13 grams. When I get time I will try and take some better pics to post

It also looks like it might be a face in the middle of the wreath when you look at it in a certain way don't know if that helps!!

I'm still having no luck on this one, as far as I know most busts are not in wreathes, at least not on coins of this apparent age and area... now someone will post a dozen wreathed busts to prove me wrong It's one of those 'right size, wrong back'.... 'right back, wrong front'... 'right back, right front, Wrong size'... type searches

to CCF! I previously posted a similar but not identical coin that ultimately came from Baden. Two sites to try are: Don's World Coin Gallery German States Section Medieval CoinageOr you can try the 'advanced search' button at Numista.com. You can narrow it down by weight and diameter. -wheatiefan
