My grandfather is giving me his huge coin collection to sell for him. After some initial investigation, it looks like we won't realize what he paid for them, but I'm just beginning my education. I think this is the best place to post pics of 2 coin sets he sent me, commemorating world fisheries. One set is Piedforts and the other is regular thickness.
The piedforts include the following coins:
Cape Verde 50 Escudos
Ghana 50 Cedis
Mozambique 50 Meticals
Seychelles 25 Rupees
Somalia 25 Shillings
Sao Tome 100 Dobras
Uruguay N$20
Liberia 2 Dollars

The regular set has the following coins:
Cape Verde 50 Escudos
Ghana 50 Cedis
Liberia 2 Dollars
Maldives 50 rufiyaa
Malta LM5
Mozambique 50 Meticals
Portugal 250 Escudos
Sao Tome 100 Dobras
Seychelles 25 Rupees
Somalia 25 Shillings
Turkey 500 Lira
Uruguay N$20

Pix to follow..

Harold,
That was the question I was both hoping for and dreading! I just started receiving my Grandfather's coin collection in the mail a couple of weeks ago. I am completely bewildered as to the value of these coins. I will respect their 50 post rule and not offer these coins for sale here. (It won't be too long before I've got 50 mails up anyway!) My original intent was to get some idea of the value of these coins and find out where the best outlet for selling them would be. I've had some mixed luck with ebay, and am usually less happy the higher the the selling price.

Coinheir

It is very difficult to say what they are worth.

They all come up for sale from time to time on ebay and I bought my silver Piedfort set some time ago for $320 which was substantially lower than the original issue price.

A very good site for FAO coins is the following site which although is not an FAO site has a comprehensive view of FAO coin sets and medals.

It also lists a number of prices realized for the various albums etc issued over the years

After years of searching I have finally found one of these coins in gold.

I just wish that I could afford it.
