My brother and I were talking coins the other night, like me he's not a collector exactly but we've both worked in the family business since we were kids and picked up any interesting stuff from the register. Anyway, one thing he showed me that really caught my eye was an 1883 "no cents" nickel. Looking at the descriptions here of the grades it looks like it could qualify as EF or almost AU. I know what you are going to say and I will see if I can get some pictures of it.

The question is; is it worth getting it graded and slabbed? I don't think he is too interested in selling it right now but it would keep it in a better condition than a little plastic baggy would right?
Rest in Peace

It would be a waste of money. This is probably the most common date for EF/AU coins in that series.

Got it. Still pretty cool find in the wild. The coin surprised me since it was in better shape than most early 20th century stuff I have found in rolls or in the cash drawer.
Rest in Peace

People tucked these away when the Government added the word "cents" to the design later that year.
It is a very cool find from circulation, however.
