Today was a pretty day so I took a drive to a local coin shop. My first experience being in one too. They mainly had modern coins, but I asked the owner about ancient coins. He pulled out a small tray of them. After going through them, I picked out the one pictured below for $35. He gave me a break and charged me $32 for it. So it was pretty cool and fun. I'm excited to have a Roman silver coin to go with the Greek bronze one. :)

From Wildwinds, it looks like it is: http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/sear5/s4568.html ?

Looks like RIC 344 to me. Your coin is a nice example. Antoninus Pius issued commemorative types in her honor on an unprecedented scale. The base of the column of Antoninus- http://www.dartmouth.edu/~rogerulri...ius_col.html

Interestingly, I'm not too happy about the authenticity of the first illustrated Wildwinds example. It appears to have a double edge, which suggests that it was cast.
In all other respects, it looks OK.
Weight not indicated.

Other opinions?

Sel, I think the first wildwinds example is fine. Sometimes the process of editing out the background (to replace with uniform black) introduces artifact. I've had that happen on some of my pictures.

For instance, on the coin in question (1st wildwinds example) at ~7:00-8:00 on the reverse, it looks like they didn't quite remove all of the original background, giving a seamed appearance there.

I agree with TIF. I never liked the edited pics. If a black backround is desired I pull out the black denim and adjust the 'shadows' (ie darken) on the finished product.
Good enough for me !
