Hi,

Just purchased a small group of farthings and a 1799 G III one was in the batch. Never owned one of these before and have a question about its edge.
Was it reeded? The one I have is very worn and appears to have a pattern in the middle of the edge. At first I thought it was a cast mark, but looking closer it is patterned. Is it the remains of a reeded edge or similar?

Thanks

You very well may have a fake. Although the year on yours, 1799 and its denomination, farthing, make it an unlikely candidate for a forgery. MOST KG III copper coins up until 1775 were contemporary counterfeits.

Normal, they call it engrailed or something.

The counterfeit pre 1775 coins are usally pretty easy to spot. They oftwen have things in the legend - I have one that reads BRITAIN RULES, and another reading CLAVDIVS ROMANVS.
