So I am looking at the older pennies and I have a 1953 and 1955 penny. I think the 1953 one has no shoulder fold. What do you think? Sorry for the quality. My scanner just refuses to scan higher than 600 ppi. I don't want to put my face really near to it either because it smells kind of mouldy (even though there's no mould as I can see). I really need invest in a magnifying glass. The white bits on the coins is glare from the scanner.

1953: no shoulder fold? Also the only coin in where the E in REGINA has a spike on its lower left touching the R's lower right.

1955: shoulder fold?

Here is 1956 shoulder fold, for comparison

And anyone knows what this green is? I'm sure it's not mould or rust. It doesn't show in the scan, but it looks fiber-y and a little bit like felt in the reverse. In the obverse, it looks like a streak of paint.

Here's a closeup that I cropped from the photo

A strange coloured penny, it's more yellow in some parts instead of brown like normal tarnish. It is also quite shiny (which neither my scanner or camera managed to capture). Any idea what happened to it? The yellow mostly is at the lower parts and the raised parts are brown.

Here is all 5 of them side by side. The lighter colouring of the two pennies on top is due to the lighting and is the same as the two pennies in the bottom.

Thanks for the confirmation. Do you know anything about the green?

Copper will naturally turn green when unprotected and exposed to the environment. Looks like someone tried to clean the green off.

The colour is different than the usual green. It is also raised and it's as high as the rim. Would cleaning the green give it a "furry" texture?

Here's that penny again with a very green penny.

Opinions?

By the way I also have pennies that are pink and black. Is this also because of environment?

I also have some that are gold. Obviously someone did that "gold penny" experiment on it. Can the "gold" be removed and do they still have any value?
One hard way to make them brown again would be electroplating them.
