Rolls, so they aren't banging around in a bag and easier to store, etc.

From a collecting standpoint, if you're gonna keep them wrapped or if you are going to actually search through them...

I buy coins individually, so neither.

But if I were buying bulk... bags.

However, I would sort and store them in rolls.

When I roll hunt I get rolls, but would definitely take bags. If I was buying from the mint, I would take the rolls for the hope of higher grade coins.

Bags, of course. Nobody's touched a bag since the Mint had it. Rolls have been handled, and potentially searched.

I believe you may be referring to rolls or bags sold by the mint. In that case, rolls. Too much abrasion in having a bag shipped.

If I could be reasonably certain both came directly from the mint (as in were packaged there - doesn't matter how many intermediate steps after that), rolls, as coins in bags are too likely to be damaged/abraded. I'm unlikely to even open them though (unless there is a buyer who wants it specifically).
If I can't be certain where these came from (and/or if it probably wasn't from the mint anyway, just a bunch of assorted coins), then bags, because they're much easier to search through (though it might depend on the quantity and the variety - if I'm likely to find any variations I need from 1-3 rolls, and if the full bag is substantially more expensive, I might consider the rolls).

That said, for now, I really don't have the money to buy any but the very cheapest coins in any way other than individually. And with the very cheapest, rolling them would take a lot of time (and then I'd need to unroll them anyway so than I can look through them), and with a bag I can just take the bag and dump the coins there quickly
Seriously, I'm considering maybe buying a roll of some relatively cheap stuff (not yet sure what specifically - whatever happens to be the cheapest one I could find, probably) just for the coolness of having a full packed roll of coins (I did have a roll of wheat cents briefly, courtesy of a fellow CCF member, but it broke open when I accidentally dropped it, and I've been keeping these wheats in a ziploc ever since). I probably couldn't afford an entire bag, and it wouldn't really have quite the coolness either.

Bags. In many places banks keep bags of coins in a vault for sort of emergencies of coin shortages. IF you could get them, might be a bag sitting in that vault for a long, long time. In one bank by me a teller told me there were bags in the vault so old they looked like they've been there since the bank was built. Imagine getting a bag of Cents that was put there in the 50's or even the 40's.

Well, I can see the point about the rolls not having so much 'shipping wear' as bags.

But wouldn't you have better luck with bags as far as finding error's? Chain strikes, clips ect...

Well, from the Mint I would prefer rolls since they are uncirculated.

My original post considered bulk circulated stuff for searching.

Bags. If I could save the shipping costs, I'd be happy to buy at cost to circulate the coinage.
