Kind of looks like a lamination to me, could we have close ups of it please?
BTW I'd grade it EF-40, nice coin

I am still new to a lot of stuff too, well as far as american goes any ways, you've got some great coins for a person collecting for just 1 and a half months! Keep it going and I'm sure the people here will teach you a lot. Good luck with your collection, I hope to see you here and converse with you for many years.
Do some searches on ccf and google for errors, I'm sure you'll find lots of helpful images and articles.

For $10 I'd take the risk, its a nice coin with some red spots visible and a possible lamination/error.
Hey, where's the S mm?

Read stuff all the time, mostly posts here, I also got a great DVD from Coop, and I have a few books on errors but sometimes, I think I see something I have read about but I am wrong lol... sometimes I grade a few right in a row but I have also made a few huge misjudgements. But like anything there's a learning curve. and for the most part this board is my education..

that coin was not listed by original owner as error it was just a $10 risk based on those images and what I think is a good score?

Everyone makes misjudgments, even I do sometimes(shalking right?)
This place truely is great, I've learned atleast half of what I know here, mind you I've lerked for years before registering. it sounds like you've got a pretty good start with learning all this stuff so that's great, plus the fact that you registered here.
I started collecting in 2009, I think anyway
This place and my LCS owner have taught me a lot and especially how to grade.

XF45. So I'm no where near an expert on errors but if I had to guess, I'd say some type of planchet issue pre-strike? It looks like it goes under the devices? Just out of curiosity, is it bent or is it a trick of the photo I'm seeing?

The photo was taken by original owner who did not list it as error, so there would be no benefit for them, they just said it was a very nice grade coin. I don't have coin in hand but from photos I am assuming. I do have some similar errors on other LWC just not going across almost full length of coin.

It looks like a planchette flaw, an improper mixture of the metals. It can lead to a lamination(what I think is on the wheat stem) and it can also lead to a woodgrain effect which is kind of what you see on the other end. I understand(thanks to the forum) that a wood grain effect can be collectible.

BadThad, I am referring to the crack from one side to the other I put a red line over top it. Too me it looks to have happened at mint because the design is over it.
